HIALEAH, Florida [September 8, 2026] — Mayor Bryan Calvo announced a major reduction in Hialeah’s water and sewer rates, delivering a significant reduction to residents and addressing one of the issues families have raised most consistently across the city.
Under the new proposed rate structure, water and sewer rates in the City’s two lowest consumption tiers will be reduced by 25%. At average household consumption of approximately 5,250 gallons per month, the change will significantly lower monthly bills for Hialeah residents.
The City is also in the process of establishing a new Senior Water Relief Program for qualified low-income senior homeowners. The program will provide an additional utility credit on top of the lower rates, reducing the average water and sewer bill for eligible seniors by approximately 50% compared with what they pay today.
“This is exactly what I promised the people of Hialeah,” Mayor Calvo said. “We looked at the numbers and found a way to deliver meaningful relief. A 25% reduction for essential household consumption for all residents, and for seniors living on fixed incomes, their average bill will be cut in half, providing real relief that Hialeah families will see every time they open their water bill.”
The Senior Water Relief Program builds on the administration’s existing low-income senior homestead relief initiative and will apply to eligible senior homeowners with individually metered City water accounts. The new consumption-based rate schedule will maintain the same overall structure for residential and commercial accounts while lowering the cost of essential water use.
The proposal represents one of the most significant changes to Hialeah’s water and sewer rate structure in its history and is part of the administration’s broader effort to reduce household costs while maintaining reliable water and sewer service.
Additional information regarding implementation, eligibility for the Senior Water Relief Program, and the effective date of the new rates will be provided by the City of Hialeah.
